Warbreaker

A quick and enjoyable read, with a fair bit of "just what's going on here"? In many ways, the beginning felt like the start of Mistborn to me - a structured magical system, with a living god-king at the top of the power heap, seemingly oppressing everyone. As I read, though, the mystery portion hooked me and I stopped making comparisons. The characters, too, began to interest me, although none of them were as fully-fleshed as the principals from Mistborn.
Ultimately, it was lots of fun to read, but lacks the extreme care and precision I'd been hoping to get from [a:Brandon Sanderson|38550|Brandon Sanderson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1394044556p2/38550.jpg], based on my limited experience. Ah, well - you can't be at the top of your game all the time.
