The Red House

Book cover for The Red House

Initially off-putting, the no quotation marks around dialogue (although speech was italicized, saving the book from the dreaded "no-quotes" tag) and frequent shifts of POV among the characters (who eventually were distinct enough to be told apart even without an explicit reference in the paragraph, but it was hard going at the beginning). By about 2/3 of the way through, there was enough interest generated in the plot and the characters' troubles (nearly none of whom I found to be sympathetic) to keep me going, so it wasn't terrible, but not nearly as engaging as Night-Time nor as funny as Bother.
