Deadhouse Gates (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #2)

At times interesting and exciting, but at other times, muddled and confusing. I found that a couple of the stories dragged me in (I was engrossed by the Icarium/Mappo storyline in particular). Ultimately, though, I'm not sure I enjoy enough the seemingly ruleless magic system in the books - there's no way to predict what incredible power someone will exhibit next. Or to explain why they don't use their incredible powers to get out of whatever scrape they've been in. I dunno…
