His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire, #1)

Fun! I enjoyed meeting Temeraire, and really liked Laurence's character. The initial conflict he felt about becoming Temeraire's handler added a hook that the book might otherwise not have had. The pacing of the book was pretty good, with a scene shift at just about the time we'd learned as much as we could from a setting - entering the Air Corps, early training, and so on. In fact, I thought this was done well enough that I fear for my enjoyment of subsequent books, when Temeraire and Laurence are fully trained and established in their relationship.
