The Ocean at the End of the Lane
A beautifully written book. Gaiman did a good job of evoking my childhood in Sussex (a neat trick, since I'm not from Sussex). The mysteries of our hero's past and memories were very well done, I thought. I loved every scene with a Hempstock in it and wished they could go on longer.
My only complaint, and it's a kind of weird one, is that the book was a little too much like his other works - a slightly more grown up [b:Coraline|17061|Coraline|Neil Gaiman|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327871014s/17061.jpg|2834844]. It's sad to criticize a work because an author delivered the kind of thing that you enjoyed in the past, but there you have it. I just would've preferred it if we had veered into slightly different territory.
