Time Reborn: From the Limits of Physics to the Future of the Universe
Lots of raves about this, but it just didn't do it for me. There were quite a few interesting little nuggets, especially variable space and the illusion of space. I found that these nuggets were buried in mounds of text that to me seemed like Smolin trying to justify why he believed that time was real. Some of these had (as I understood it) sound physical reasons, but a lot seemed to come down to his own comfort and preferences. Which is fineāit's his book. Maybe I was just too tired and didn't put the effort into it, I dunno.
Oh. In my opinion the best part of the book was the rough diagrams from the beginning. Then they were displaced by what appeared to be professionally-drawn ones. Quite a letdown.
