The Three-Body Problem (Remembrance of Earth’s Past, #1)

Started a little slow for me. I think the scenes set in the 60s were supposed to set up the motivation of one of the main characters (and perhaps served as a bit of an introduction for those of us not steeped in the Cultural Revolution), it wasn't obvious how they were going to pay off at first, so I struggled to pay attention.

The middle bit was very interesting, though. A mysterious occurrence coupled with a mysterious game that (I'm sure this is no spoiler, but just in case) tied into real life in a pretty cool way and also kept us guessing for a while. During this part of the book (and right to the end, I suppose), I couldn't wait to resume reading.

As in [b:The Way of Kings|7235533|The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1)|Brandon Sanderson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1659905828l/7235533.SY75.jpg|8134945], the way that certain key plot points were presented near the end seemed a little rushed to me, and I'd've preferred a slightly gentler introduction.

I have some minor quibbles about the hardness of the science fiction (especially as presented at the end) and what seemed like a glaring error in two adjacent sentences, but I'm willing to overlook those for the story, and for one very cool scene.

The translation seemed to me to be quite good. Definitely fun to read, the phrasing was not clunky but retained just enough otherness to make me feel at all times like I was reading a Chinese story, not a Western one.
