The Secret Chord

Engaging, and the prose was nearly up to Brooks' usual standard.
I was pulled along by the story, and Natan was sometimes interesting, for all that he was stuck between the powers of David and The Word. I enjoyed learning more about (Brooks's interpretation of) David, as my knowledge was scanty.
I thought the "tale within a tale" aspect fell down toward the middle or end of the book, which disappointed (unless that was the point?), and I ended up not having quite as much empathy for the characters as I usually do.
Still, enjoyable and entertaining.
